“I’m proud of my Irish-Italian heritage and the work ethic that has come down from my grandparents. Their ice cream parlour, Cafolla’s, O’Connell St, was an iconic destination on Dublin’s O’Connell St, and is fondly remembered by many. In a way, my own work is informed by this. I’m creating something new and contemporary, but it’s infused with meaning, tradition and memories.”
Bianca Divito is the founder and lead artist at Divito Studios. Following a degree in Architectural Glass at the Swansea Metropolitan University in Wales, Bianca’s early career focused on gaining experience in the conservation process, working on priceless stained glass at York Minister and Canterbury Cathedral in the UK and St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin. Other notable international work includes a contemporary window scheme in the Guest Palace in Oman.
After returning to Ireland and setting up in her native Co Wicklow, Bianca met her husband, garden designer Damien Keane, through collaborating on a unique idea for stained glass as a garden feature. This brought them to collaborate on an award-winning exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The Story Now
Divito Studios is now based at The Old Schoolhouse, in Coolgreaney, Co Wexford, where Bianca designs and makes her glass pieces, and also offers short glass art courses. With renovations of the historic building underway, a gallery space at The Old Bike Shed is due to open to the public in November 2021.
